Nanas Mac and Cheese


    • 2 cups Mueller’s elbow macaroni cooked

      • Rinse under cold water 3 times (Doris swears this is essential)

    • 1 lb White deli cheese ¾ lb cut up small and mixed in with macaroni & milk

      • Use balance of cheese to top macaroni if you can’t find deluxe white (double the pieces to make it thick enough)

    • Deluxe White Am cheese – use slices to cover top of macaroni

    • Milk to cover ¾ of Mac once in the dish

    • Some butter (perhaps 1/4 stick at most)


Combine macaroni, milk & cheese in a shallow dish – preferably oblong (if square, sometimes it comes out too milky) I usually warm the milk a little in the microwave – maybe 30 seconds. Then I mix some noodles and some cheese into the milk, then more noodles, then more cheese. Easier to get the cheese throughout the noodles that way.

Before topping with cheese, dab small amounts of butter on top of the macaroni so that it melts down in. Then do the same on the topping cheese – will give a good brown top. I use soft margarine and just spread it over the cheese.

Bake 325 ° for 25-30 min – or until bubbly and browned
